A Revox tape recorder records sounds randomly selected from the films chosen for this "carte blanche".
Continuously re-recorded or partially overwritten, the content transforms and fragments. Sources of information clashes, blends and gets lost. A bit like in our world, but better!
Un magnétophone Revox enregistre les sons puisés aléatoirement dans les films choisis pour cette carte blanche.
Continuellement réenregistré ou partiellement remplacé, le contenu se transforme et se morcelle. Les sources s'entrechoquent, se mélangent et se perdent. Un peu comme dans notre monde, mais en mieux!
Point d'écoute
Sound installation for the exhibition "Le microphone" from December 7, 2023 to March 2, 2024 at the API in Geneva (Switzerland).
Two microphones on the roof of a building pick up ambient sounds. Every minute, a tape recorder inside the building records a few seconds of these sounds onto magnetic tape. The tape recorder continuously plays back and re-records the accumulated sounds. Over time, this audio information becomes fragmented and degrades until it disappears.
Subjective and fragmentary, the recording captures certain specific moments amongst others possibles and its content becomes decontextualised through its constant replay.
The transmission of information is always merely a reflect of certain points of view. Here, from a listening point.
Deux microphones placés sur le toit d'un bâtiment captent les sons environnants. Toutes les minutes, un magnétophone placé à l’intérieur du bâtiment en enregistre quelques secondes sur une bande magnétique. Le magnétophone diffuse et réenregistre en permanence les sons accumulés. Avec le temps, ces informations sonores se morcèlent et se dégradent jusqu’à disparaitre.
Subjectif et fragmentaire, l’enregistrement capte certains instants précis parmi d’autres possibles et son contenu se décontextualise par sa permanente rediffusion.
La transmission d'information n'est toujours que le reflet de certains points de vue. Ici d'un point d'écoute.

Vox
Sound installation for the Archipel Festival from 16 to 25 March 2021 in Geneva (Switzerland)
In a secluded room, the installation comprising two Revox B-77 and a magnetic tape, records, processes and diffuse sound information collected by two microphones in the festival’s "Listening Room", located at the other end of the building.
Incessantly, memory is truncated to make way for new information.
In this time of ultra-fast communication and almost instantaneous information, this sound installation proposes a reflection on the interpretation and persistence of information.
Dans une salle isolée, le dispositif constitué de deux Revox B-77 et d'une bande magnétique, enregistre, traite et diffuse les informations sonores prisent par deux microphones dans le "Salon d'écoute" du festival, à l'autre bout du bâtiment.
Inlassablement la mémoire se tronque pour laisser place à de nouvelles informations.
A notre époque de la communication ultra rapide et de l'information quasi instantanée, cette installation sonore propose une réflexion sur l'interprétation et la persistance de l'information.
